Yesterday I was privileged to be a guest on Chicago’s Morning Answer WIND 560 AM with hosts Amy Jacobson and Dan Proft. The topic was impeachment. The segment began with a good representative selection of soundbites of the previous day’s point-counterpoint argument between the Democrat House Managers and the president’s lawyers over proposed amendments to the procedural rules for the Senate trial. Then Dan and Amy cut to me for my analysis.
Other than spending one day at Bill Clinton’s impeachment trial, I have had no first hand experience of such proceedings. But, after trying cases as a prosecutor and private counsel in state and federal courts for almost 50 years, I do know a bit about advocacy and how to present a case. Moreover, after suffering through hours of watching the preliminary legal arguments before the Senate, I have been utterly amazed at the commentary by all of the high-powered network legal talking heads who have praised the “skilled” and “powerful” lawyering by Rep. Adam Schiff (D – Calif.) and the other House Managers.
So, humbled and flattered by the invitation to appear on Amy and Dan’s show, I was pleased to share with their listeners my grunt-level, down-in-the-trenches trial lawyer view of the so-called Trial of the Century. Even though I am not a shrink and don’t even pIay one on television, I began by sharing my firm belief – based on decades of interactions with lunatics and sociopaths – that Congressman Schiff is a psycho in need of professional intervention. It kind of went of downhill from there. But click on the link below, take a listen and decide for yourselves.
Hope you enjoy it!
