Last Friday, my wife and I drove several hours north to receive our second Moderna vaccine jabs at separate Publix Pharmacies in the Orlando area. In scheduling these appointments last month through the Publix website, we had to take what we could get or wait for a chance at something closer to our place in Southwest Florida.
Our first jabs were in February, and on Friday we returned to the same pharmacies to finish the process.
According to media reports, many persons receiving their second vaccine doses have had unpleasant reactions. We didn’t want to make the long drive up to Orlando and return the same day, especially if we were suffering any vaccine side effects.
So, being the jaded international jet-set sophisticates that we are, we decided to spend the week-end at Walt Disney World and ride out any unpleasant reactions to the jabs.
That’s how we came to be at Disney’s Contemporary Resort on Sunday morning when I did a radio interview with Roshini Rajkumar (Real Talk With Roshini) on WCCO News Talk 830 in Minneapolis. The topic was the ongoing prosecution of Derek Chauvin for the death of George Floyd.
Surprisingly, the cell and WiFi services at the Contemporary Resort turned out to be spotty. So, before the interview, I searched for the best available cell service and wound up on an open plaza just below the Contemporary’s monorail entrance/exit. Here’s a picture that I took with my cell phone while waiting for the interview to begin.
During the interview, the monorail trains came and went before an enthusiastic audience of kids and parents. This required me to speak loudly into my cell phone as I discussed with Roshini the gruesome findings of George Floyd’s autopsy. A couple of parents eyed me suspiciously as in “Why is this loudmouth perv yelling about that awful stuff in front of our kids?”
So, while I was real talking with Roshini, I was also looking out for approaching security guards wearing mouse ears and carrying canisters of Magic Kingdom Mace.
Fortunately, security never arrived and the interview went off without a hitch. You can listen to it by clicking on this link. As usual, Roshini came prepared, asked good questions and courageously provided an open media forum right there in the Minneapolis war zone on which a guest (me) was able to challenge the factual basis for the prosecution of Derek Chauvin and the other former police officers who have been charged with killing George Floyd.
(Note: There’s more to come on the Floyd autopsy front that I hope to be able to share with you in the near future. So stay tuned.)
Finally, my wife and I had no noticeable reaction to our second doses of vaccine save for one day of mild headaches, stiff necks and sore arms. We’re now fully vaccinated thanks to President Trump’s Operation Warp Speed as well as Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and the State of Florida’s partnership with Publix Pharmacies, Winn-Dixie Supermarkets, CVS Pharmacies and other private enterprises to make timely vaccinations available to millions.
