The last post on this blog discussed, among other things, my recent back surgery which requires me to take inordinate amounts of prednisone for inflammation and oxycodone for pain.
So there I was sitting around late Thursday night with a load of oxycodone on board honing my newly acquired skills of drooling and staring vacantly into space. It was then that an email popped up on my cell phone. It was from Quin McCarthy, the affable producer of Chicago’s Morning Answer AM 560, the top-rated drive time radio show in the Chicago media market. It is hosted by the very smart and entertaining husband and wife team of Dan Proft and Amy Jacobson.
Over the years I have been privileged many times to appear on air with Dan and Amy. They are great interviewers who are always well-informed and well-prepared. The producer wanted to know if I would like to do an early morning interview regarding the predicted indictment of Hunter Biden for evading federal income tax and illegally purchasing a firearm. In the fog of the last few weeks, I had become vaguely aware of the situation but had no real grasp of the issues involved.
I read and re-read the email as my drug-addled brain dully debated whether I could successfully navigate a live radio interview. What were the pros and cons?
Cons: (a) I had only the most rudimentary knowledge of the subject matter, (b) my oxycodoned brain processes information slowly or sometimes incorrectly or not at all, and (c) the prednisone makes me somewhat roid crazed and prone to intemperate remarks.
Pros: There were none. But, since for 50 years I made a living by running my mouth in courtrooms, I decided to take a chance, and accepted the invitation.
Figuring that I could prepare in the morning, I set the alarm for 6:30 AM and went to bed.
When I woke up, my back was hurting. So, per doctor’s orders, I gulped down a handful of prednisone tabs with an oxycodone chaser. All this by way of explaining that, by the time I went live on air at 8:00 AM, I was on the verge of roid rage and only marginally aware of what was happening around me.
Frankly, I recall very little about the interview. But thankfully, Quin the producer sent me an audio recording of it which you can access on Rumble by clicking on this picture:
As usual Dan Proft got off the best line in the broadcast. It has to do with John Fetterman, Pennsylvania’s Democrat candidate for the U.S. Senate. That alone makes the interview worthwhile. As for my answers, they seem to be a bit disjointed, unfocused and halting. But please consider the interview to be a first step on the road to re-engaging with the world.
Who knows where this could lead? I might even write something about Hunter’s extraordinary business acumen and the clever deals he has made in Ukraine and Communist China.
So take a listen. Hope you enjoy it.
