It deals with the U.S. government’s 51 day siege of the Mount Carmel Center ranch 13 miles northwest of Waco, Texas, where members of the Branch Davidian sect of the Seventh Day Adventist Church lived and were killed. In 1992, the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (“ATF”) received information that the Branch Davidians were stockpiling illegal firearms. Yesterday The American Spectator published my article about the Manhattan Grand Jury’s indictment of former President Donald Trump. It has been featured by Real Clear Politics and is generating a fair amount of comment. The title of the article is The Incoherent Trump Indictment, and it is critical of Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s attempt to obfuscate the nature and cause of the charges against Trump. Last evening, just as soon as news of former President Trump’s indictment broke, Quin McCarthy, the very able producer of Chicago’s Morning Answer on WIND AM560, texted to invite me to appear with hosts Dan Proft and Amy Jacobson this morning. I immediately accepted even though the indictment remains under seal and I have no clue as to the theory of the prosecution’s case. In last night’s Super Bowl, the Kansas City Chiefs defeated the Philadelphia Eagles by scoring a field goal in the last few seconds of play. Final score: 38-35. This triggered rioting by Eagles fans in Center City Philadelphia. Of course it did. Rioting seems to be the default response hard wired into the DNA of Eagles fans regardless of the outcome. They rioted when the Eagles won the Super Bowl in 2018, and no doubt would have done the same last night if the Eagles had been victorious. Okay, Kevin McCarthy has been elected Speaker of the House. It took fifteen rounds of voting and concessions by McCarthy to gain the critical votes of his opponents in the House Freedom Caucus (“HFC”). At a White House ceremony on June 25, 2019, President Donald Trump conferred the Congressional Medal of Honor on retired Army Staff Sergeant David Bellavia for his courageous actions during the Second Battle of Fallujah.
